MRBC Parish Nursing receiving the Community Excellence Award: Adult Health and Social Care from Romaine Thomson of Anthony Collins Solicitors.

Faithworks Awards Ceremony at the House of Commons honours Christian Community projects

17 Christian community projects were honoured at the Faithworks Awards ceremony at the House Of Commons on 8 June 2009. The event, hosted by the Rt Hon Alun Michael MP with keynote speaker Rt Hon Stephen Timms MP, was an inspiring celebration of the committed and tireless work of Christian projects serving communities around the UK.

Praising the shortlisted projects the Rt Hon Stephen Timms MP, Labour Vice Chair for Faith Groups said: ‘We are seeing today a rich profusion of initiatives that tackle social challenges, which have as their starting point and motivation, faith in and worship of Christ.’’

‘We see the award as affirmation of what we are doing in our community." said Steve Lineham from MRBC Parish Nursing, recipients of the Community Excellence Award: Adult Health and Social Care. "Last month our church agreed to extend the Parish Nurse’s contract indefinitely, not knowing where the funding would come from, so this award is a great help and we hope that God will be glorified through what we are doing.'

We would like to say a special thank you to Anthony Collins Solicitors, Spurgeons Network, Oasis UK and Kingdom Bank for their generous support of this year's Faithworks Awards.

Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith MP
speaking at the most recent Charities Parliament event.
Early Intervention by the faith sector can repair broken Britain

Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith recently spoke at Charities Parliament on ‘Breakthrough Britain: The role of faith inspired and voluntary agencies in mending broken Britain’ and responded to questions from the audience.

Listen to his speech or download the presentation online

Praising the contribution of of churches and voluntary agencies Iain Duncan Smith said, ‘We need to change the culture in government. I think the tide has turned. The time when the government thinks that there is some sort of threat from an organisation because they have a belief and a strong faith must now be seen as an absurdity. What they should be interested in is the outputs. What exactly do they do, do they do it well, do they achieve things? That should be the be all and end all of the requirement.’
